Spain (BLS International — London) Spain reopened its London centres in mid-2024 after a long period of difficulty. As of early 2026, appointments are typically available within 2 to 4 weeks during off-peak months, stretching to 6 to 8 weeks in summer. Tier-list booking is now in effect — premium fast-track slots are available at extra cost.

Greece (BLS International — London) Greece has historically been the easier route. Appointments are usually available within 1 to 3 weeks year-round. There is no premium tier needed — the standard slot is the fast slot. This is the single biggest advantage Greece holds.

Verdict: Greece wins on appointments by a clear margin.

Approval Rates

Approval data is not officially published per consulate, but our internal data from London applications over the past 18 months gives a reliable picture.

  • Spain: ~92% approval rate for properly prepared cases. Higher scrutiny on tourism applications without family ties in Spain.
  • Greece: ~94% approval rate for properly prepared cases. Slightly more lenient on first-time travellers.

Both numbers are excellent. The differentiator is preparation, not the country.

Documentation Stringency

Both countries require the same core documents — passport, bank statements, employment letter, accommodation, travel insurance, itinerary. The differences are in what triggers a flag.

Spain scrutinises:

  • Source of funds for any deposit over €3,000 in the last 90 days
  • Accommodation booking authenticity — they sometimes verify with the hotel
  • Return ticket evidence — preferring confirmed bookings over reservations

Greece scrutinises:

  • 6-month bank statement history — they want continuity, not snapshots
  • Employment letter wording — they expect specific dates of approved leave
  • Whether you've travelled before — first-time travellers get harder scrutiny

Both countries accept verified flight reservations (dummy tickets) provided they're from a legitimate provider. Neither requires a fully paid ticket before approval.

Choose Spain if:

  • You're a higher earner with comfortable savings (£1,500+ accessible)
  • You can afford the premium fast-track if needed
  • Your trip is genuinely focused on Spanish destinations
  • You have a history of approved Schengen visas

When to Choose Greece

Choose Greece if:

  • You're on a more modest budget (£600–£1,500 accessible)
  • This is your first Schengen application from the UK
  • Your appointment timeline is tight
  • You want the highest probability of approval first try

The Strategic Move

Here is what most agents won't tell you: Schengen visas issued by any member state allow you to travel within the entire 27-country area, provided your stay in the issuing country represents the majority or first port of entry.
